All,
After much consideration and deliberation, the CRA Board of Directors is issuing this updated class-specific ruling:
“8). Bikes eligible for the Absolute Trailer Sales/Bob Fier Racing Ninja 250 class are not eligible for any other class.”
The basis of this ruling was based 100% around safety. When the class was created, it’s intent was to have a place for the Ninja 250s to have a competitive class to run in. When it was decided to put it as a separate wave in the Ultralight race, it was decided that Ninja 250s would NOT be allowed to run in the Ultralight instead of Ninja 250 class to prevent people from choosing the class with less participants to gain a points advantage. There was not a specific intention to prevent Ninja 250s from bumping up to Lightweight (or Middleweight as some have argued it is legal to do) because, quite frankly, the fact that a rider would enter a higher class never entered our minds.
The past two race weekends featured Ninja 250s entered in Lightweight races and created some confusion as to the legality of the bikes bumping weight classes. The end result was that there was a significant grey area regarding this topic and that there was not a definitive argument for or against Ninja 250s bumping. However, discussions occurred in regards to the safety aspect of having a Ninja 250 in a Lightweight (or other) race and due to many different negative possible outcomes, it was decided that the Ninja 250s are to race ONLY in the Absolute Trailer Sales/Bob Fier Racing Ninja 250 class.
