Rulebook update on racer refunds

Posted: August 22, 2016 by admin in Announcements
We have clarified Section 4.1 of the CRA rulebook regarding race refunds.  There are no new restrictions here, aside from the time limit for filing your refund request.  These changes are taking effect immediately.  As we do for all rulebook updates, the old text is shown in overstrike and the new text is bold.

Section 4 – Race Procedures

1)    Racers who pre-register for races may cancel their order before pre-registration deadline for a full refund.  If any order is cancelled after pre-registration deadline, an administrative fee of $25 will be withheld from the refund.  All requests for refunds must be submitted on the refund request form found at Race Registration or www.cra-mn.com.

2)    Fees will not be refunded to a rider for any day that the rider has turned a wheel on the hot track.  A disqualified rider forfeits all entry fees.

1)    Racers may receive refunds for races they were unable to run, subject to the following:

  • CRA Refund Request Forms must be received by Racer Liaison in person, via email or by standard mail no later than fourteen (14) days after the CRA event.

  • Requests must be accompanied by a copy of the receipt showing purchase detail.

  • Requests received before pre-registration closes are not subject to an administrative fee.

  • Requests received after pre-registration closes will be charged an administrative fee of $25.

  • Received forms must be legible and all fields completed to be eligible for review.

  • Refunds will not be granted for any day the rider had turned a tire on the active track at any time.

  • A disqualified rider forfeits all entry fees.

2016 Cra August New Racer School

Posted: August 10, 2016 by President in Racers

Attention to all 2016 CRA August New Riders, scheduling up date as follows:

If you are going to be a New Rider that did not attend the classroom portion at MotoPrimo this past March, you must report to the track side classroom at 7am Friday August 26th.

If you did attend the classroom this past March, you need to report to the track side classroom at 8:30 am August 26th, however if you would like a complete review of the March classroom you are welcome to come at 7am also.

If you took the New Rider classroom portion either this past March at MotoPrimo or this past May at the track and were not able to complete any or all the on track portion requirements, you will need to complete this before you become a licensed racer even if you were given your race license. This includes participation in the New Rider race, reasons for not completing the on track portion may have been a mechanical brake down, etc. If you are one of these New Riders then you need to report to the classroom at 8:30 am Friday August 26th.

It is important that all involved, both students and instructors be on time so we can stay on schedule. On behalf of Christian and myself, thank you.

The classroom is located in the building close to the 4 way stop by the competition course entrance.

Thanks,

Shane Keaveny CRA Co-Chief NRS

CRA Round Three Press Release

Ohnsorg Hits 197mph and Bastein Wins the Framstad Cup During CRA Round Three

The big story coming into the third round of the Central Roadracing Association’s 2016 season, held on Brainerd International Raceway’s Donnybrooke course, was the annual running of the Framstad Cup but Kyle Ohnsorg stole the show during the last race of the weekend by setting a new track record of 1:39.412 and clocking in at a GPS verified top speed of 197mph on the 3/4 mile long front straight.

Second-year rider Adam Bastien’s performance in the 2016 edition of the Framstad Cup, the most prestigious race on the Central Roadracing Association’s calendar, can be summed up with one word: domination. Starting near the front in the tortoise vs. hare style race, Bastien quickly put his head down on the Schmalenberg Racing Services Kawasaki Ninja 300 and had more than a lap lead before Kyle Ohnsorg, Brandon Punt, Aaron Anderson and Bell Helmets rider Shane Keaveny were released to start their race on their 600cc-1000cc machinery. Once he had clear track ahead of him he pulled away from the field in a way not seen since fellow Schmalenberg Racing Services rider Christian Schmidt decimated the field while riding a Kawasaki Ninja 250 to victory in the 2011 edition of the classic race. John Roswick, Jr. put in an admirable ride on a borrowed Suzuki SV650 to come home in second place in front of young upstart Nate Minster on his KTM RC390 Cup bike.

Kyle Ohnsorg was in a class of his own all weekend with the only blot on his copybook being a fifth place finish in the Unlimited Supersport race where he lined up against the 1000cc field on his trusty Yamaha R6. Aside from that, he brought home top honors in every standard format race he competed in (the Framstad Cup is typically difficult for larger capacity motorcycles to win due to the amount of slower traffic toward the end of the race, and Ohnsorg qualified for the race on his Yamaha R6 and finished outside of the top six riders). Christian Schmidt and Shane Keaveny (proudly representing Ray Ban sunglasses for July only) continued to close in on a good setup on their Kawasaki ZX-10Rs but they had absolutely nothing for the Mike Husman tuned BMW S1000RR ridden by the flyweight Ohnsorg. An honorable mention in the Unlimited class goes to both Marlin Johnson and Josh Harein who consistently hung with the tail end of the expert Unlimited group which is not an easy thing to do, especially at BIR’s Donnybrooke course.

With Ohnsorg riding off into the sunset in the Expert classes, the story in Middleweight had to be first-year rider Jake Hennen storming to multiple wins through the weekend showcasing an aggressive riding style that will see him at the front of expert races sooner rather than later. James Mullen made Hennen’s life difficult in multiple races but an unfortunate off for Mullen toward the end of the day Sunday prematurely ended his weekend and possibly his season. Further down the pack there were many race long battles between Eric Hjelter, Ewa Kalinsky, new rider Josh Hultberg and Tim Rabe with each rider pushing each other to improve which was evident as they lowered their personal best lap times race after race.

The Lightweight classes saw a potential new character in the Jon Champ Show with Matt Cina putting his exquisitely prepped Yamaha FZ-07 to good use to bring home a few second place finishes in the Expert class. The Novice class was the place to go for great racing as Chris Mattson, Corey Robinson had multiple battles throughout the weekend although Mattson consistently took top honors.

The newly created “Triple-D Award” (Dat Dude’s Dedicated) went to Ultralight rider Jack Barton for battling through a stomach bug that was serious enough to even affect his vision while wearing a helmet during the weekend. He persevered and even brought home a win through all of his troubles. Elsewhere in the little bike classes, the Ninja 250 Novice races were some of the best races of the entire weekend with Jayme Schmit, Corey Robinson and Sean Stettnichs battling every lap of every race.

On the lighter side of things, a welcome return was made to the CRA pitbike race. An annual event in the past, an impromptu pitbike race was run on Saturday evening with riders and CRA volunteers alike donning their race gear and preparing for battle – literally. Never a serious affair, the pitbike race featured many garbage cans, traffic cones, a figure-eight course and a water-spewing “car” joining the fun from time to time. Justin Craine, Jeff Japs and Nate Minster were the front-runners in this race but the crowd-favorite was undeniably the Yamaha Zuma being ridden in tandem by Kris Skellenger and Scott Stall. Wielding a traffic bollard as a jousting weapon, the duo wreaked havoc on things (mostly Skellenger’s beloved Zuma) and pulled off a daring in-motion rider swap to the delight of the tens of spectators. The race was won by someone (does it really matter) and fun was had by all, and we’re going to do it again in August!

The fourth round of the CRA season will take place on Brainerd International Raceway’s Competition Course, August 26-28 with a bigger, badder pitbike race happening on August 27.
