Call for Pit Marshalls

Posted: July 17, 2012 by Worker Liaison in Announcements

The CRA is in need of Pit Marshalls for the 3 and 5 hour endurance races to take place on August and September weekends. Volunteers will need to attend a pre-race marshal meeting, and work the entire endurance event (from flag to flag). Volunteers will get free gate entry, and free lunch.
Pit marshals will patrol the pit area, enforcing the following rules:

• Everyone in pits must have restricted area wristband on (color to be announced)
• Nothing on or over walls
o No gas cans, stands, tools, fire bottles, etc. left on wall or on pit pavement
• Ultralight riders must wear colored vest or t-shirt
• No more than 6 persons per team, including riders, are allowed over the pit wall at a time
• Pit lane speed limit is 45mph on comp course, 55mph on Donnybrooke course at all times. Speed limit to be enforced by orange cones at start and finish of pit lane.
• A rider may accelerate or decelerate up to 5 pit boxes before or after his own pit IF THEY ARE EMPTY
• Any team entering pits during ‘pit closed’ timing shall result in forfeiture of all accrued laps and immediate disqualification from event (section 14-15)
REFUELING REGULATIONS
• One crew member must be standing directly in front of the front wheel with a 10BC extinguisher at the ready
o Said crew member cannot do any other maintenance during fueling, only hold extinguisher at the ready
• While refueling, the rider must be off the motorcycle and the motorcycle must be securely supported by a mechanical stand
o Another crew member does not count as a mechanical stand.
• No other work may be performed on the motorcycle while refueling
o Cleaning windshields, checking tire pressures, or checking other fluids counts as ‘other work’, and cannot be performed while refueling
• Use of funnels or fuel caddies/fuel towers is not allowed for refueling
• Gravity feed ‘quick fill’ containers are allowed, but must have a positive shut off to prevent overfilling
If you have any questions or are interested in pit marshaling for either August or September weekend, please email workerliaison@cra-mn.com.

SCOTT STALL TAKES FOUR VICTORIES DURING ROUND 3 OF THE CENTRAL ROADRACING ASSOCIATION SEASON

The Central Roadracing Assocation reached the mid-way point of the 2012 season with the July 6-8 event at Brainerd International Raceway’s Competition Course. With the season winding down the Championship picture is becoming clearer. Shane Fletcher continued his charge toward the Overall Championship and holds a healthy lead over 15-year old Kaleb De Keyrel. In the Novice ranks, Brandon Soine has the Championship firmly in his grasp with a massive lead over Chris Knauf.

The highlight of the weekend for most fans and riders was special guest, Jake Zemke. Zemke was planning on racing a TPL Racing Ducati 848 but suspension issues scuppered his attempt at Middleweight glory. That didn’t stop the fans from lining up for pictures, autographs and great conversation with the AMA rider. Zemke was a fantastic ambassador for AMA Pro Racing, giving an interview with the CRA announcer and even acting as a mechanic for Novice superstar Jordan Imrie.

There were many fantastic performances over the weekend, but Scott Stall was finally put together a solid weekend by bringing home four victories in the “big” classes and rarely finishing off the podium. Shane Fletcher and Kaleb De Keyrel continued to impress, bringing home multiple victories and a brace of podium finishes as well.

The EX250 grid saw the return of reigning CRA Champion Christian Schmidt aboard his #1 Momentumphoto.net Kawasaki. Schmidt put together some great runs but being off of motorcycles since last September meant he wasn’t able to regain the dominant performances of the 2011 season. While he featured in the battles for the win with CRA veterans Bryant Soberg and Mark Dargis, he was only able to take to the top step of the podium once in the six races he ran. Nonetheless, it was a successful return to racing for one of the CRA’s top riders.

The Lightweight races featured incredibly close battles for the win between Jon Champ, Kyle Knutson and Derek Gallion. Knutson held the advantage on Saturday, taking two wins with Gallion taking home the third. Jon Champ made it known that he doesn’t rest on Sundays by taking all three victories home with him, leaving Knutson, Eric Fox and Dan Nygaard to fight over the remaining podium spots.

Veteran Jim Wiles also put in some very inspiring rides on his Suzuki GSX-R750 throughout the weekend. He was noticeably faster as the weekend wore on and he finished out the final race of the weekend with a great pass on Sean Edgett’s Yamaha R1 around the outside of the Turn 8 Carousel.

Congratulations to the riders mentioned above and to all of the CRA riders and volunteers for another amazing weekend!

2012 Elections for Board of Directors

Posted: June 20, 2012 by Secretary in Announcements, Elections

I wanted to get the word out early!  Start thinking of those people around you who you think would be great Board of Directors members!  2 spots will be up for election after this season.  Kris Skellenger and I (Kim Mattson) will be completing our 3 year terms.

Elections will be in September, but we want candidates as soon as possible.  To nominate someone, you must put it in writing (email works).  The candidate will then need to accept the nomination to be put on the ballot.

Being on the board of directors takes some committment, but it is so rewarding!  If you have any specific questions about what we do, please feel free to ask any of us!

JULY PRE-SALE GATE TICKETS

Posted: June 20, 2012 by Race Registration in Announcements

July pre-sale gate tickets will be on sale through until Monday June 25.  This will allow us time to get them mailed out to people who order them.  We will also have them available at our board/membership meeting on 7/3 at the Richfield VFW at 7pm.   If you purchase them through us, the cost is $45 for Friday-Sunday.  If you wait and purchase them at the gate at BIR, they will be $80.

Volunteer workers for the CRA are not required to get these, you will enter as you do for every other weekend.  These tickets would be for racers or spectators who normally pay a fee at the gate when they enter.

To order these tickets, or if you have any questions, please contact Kim and Anna at racereg@cra-mn.com.

Looking for new Chiefs of Contingency

Posted: June 5, 2012 by Worker Liaison in Announcements

Hello racers and volunteers! As we begin another great season with CRA, the time has come to call out for volunteers to take on an important and rewarding role in the form of a Chief position/s. We are looking for two volunteers that would like to take on the Chief and Co Chief of Contingency job.

Both Aaron Collins and I are ready to pass on our duties to two people that would like to give back some time to the club in an important role for all of the racers, both expert and novice.  I speak for both of us when I say that we have enjoyed the work that we’ve done and want to find volunteers as dedicated as we have been to keeping the contingency program running strong. When we started our Chief positions, we had some simple goal in mind, to leave the contingency program in better shape than how we found it. I think we have achieved this, but there is still a lot of work to be done to continue and improve the program.

We want the incoming Chiefs to have this same goal and motivation, as a good contingency program is very important for the overall health of the club. This rewarding position provides great experience in marketing, advertising and customer service(both racers and contingency companies). Most importantly you will have the honor of knowing you helped a variety of racers to stay on the track; racing is not cheap and contingency money sometimes is the make or break of some peoples budgets. Duties for this position include: Soliciting new sponsors during the off season, working to retain existing sponsors, working with each individual sponsor to establish their level of involvement, posting contingencies online, printing forms and providing them at the track, working with tech and providing support for issues regarding inspections, processing and providing event results to the sponsors both electronic and paper forms, and being available at the track (within reason) to address contingency issues and make announcements.

We are looking for volunteers and will make a decision after we have gathered a few names and reviewed it with the Board of Directors. If you are interested and have questions, please contact one of us and we will be happy to go into detail about what this involves.

Thank you!

Dear CRA Racers (06-05-2012)

Posted: June 5, 2012 by Racer Liaison in Announcements, Racers

Several inquiries were brought to the attention of the Board of Directors after the 2012 May CRA race weekend regarding incorrect class registration. The Board of Directors would like to remind all racers that it is their responsibility to register for the correct class as well as understand the class legalities of their machine(s). Although the Technical Inspectors perform pre-weekend and post Super Sport race inspections, it is not solely their responsibility to determine the legalities of each machine. In addition, it is not the responsibility of Race Registration to review each CRA participants class or machine correspondences. It is primarily the moral obligation of each racer and of their class competitors. The BOD will be making a revision to the 2012 Championship point standings regarding this specific instance. We strongly encourage each racer to follow the 2012 CRA rules for protesting unfair competition. Protest rules and requirements can be found in section 12 of the 2012 CRA rule book: https://www.cra-mn.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/2012-Rulebook.pdf

We are currently working on a complete revision of Section 12; Sub-5 of the 2012 CRA rule book to reflect a current pricing structure for protest fees. Please stay tuned as these revisions will be published shortly,

Thank you all for your time and consideration,
Cole,
Racer Liaison
