Posted: September 22, 2011 by Racer Liaison in Announcements

The 2011 election ballots are in the mail. This year we have three great candidates vying to fill two open spots. The CRA has made massive strides as a club in the past year and we aim to bring that momentum into 2012. Take a look at the below bio’s and submit your ballots by October 4.

The ballots you receive in the mail can be mailed back to CRA headquarters via the enclosed return envelope OR you can turn them in during the September race weekend by placing them in the secure ballot box to be located in race regisration.

5-Hour Endurance Qualifying

Posted: September 21, 2011 by Racer Liaison in Announcements

Follow up on minors in endurance pit area

Posted: September 20, 2011 by Vice President in Announcements

Minors will be allowed in the endurance pit area once the parents/legal guardians have signed a minor release form that will be provided at the track.  These forms will be available in race registration on Sunday morning between 9-10am ONLY.  There will be a notary available to sign these forms with the parents/legal guardians.  The child(ren) will then receive a wrist band showing that they are allowed in the pit area.

Minors will not be allowed to cross pit lane to go to the track wall and must stay in their immediate pit area at all times unless being escorted by a parent/legal guardian.  Minors must be BEHIND pit canopies (toward the chain link fence) when a pit stop is being performed, once the pit stop is complete they may come back under the pit canopy.  This will be monitored, and penalties will be levied by the race steward to those not following the rules.  This includes having minors in the pit area that have not had a waiver completed and wrist band on.

Please know that we strive to make the CRA a family environment and we don’t want to exclude anyone, but we want to make sure that everyone is safe at all times.  We will not be allowing pets of any kind in the pit area.  If you have any questions regarding this, please feel free to contact a Board of Directors member.

Registration for trophy plaques is now open

Posted: September 18, 2011 by Race Registration in Announcements, Racers

In an effort to reduce waste, we are wanting racers who would like the wooden plaque for their trophies to register for them.  There is still no cost as usual, however, since it is through the shopping cart it will require you to enter CC information.  Your CC information is secure and nothing will be charged to your card.  Once your order is received in the shopping cart and Anna and I have made note of it, the order itself will be cancelled, deleting all CC info.

We will keep this open for a couple weeks before needing to place the order to receive them in time for the banquet.  Please email me or Anna with any questions.

Trophy Presentation Change

Posted: September 7, 2011 by Vice President in Announcements

The Board of Directors has decided that the gold “trophy” plates will be handed out at the banquet this year instead of Saturday evening during September weekend as has been done in the past.  This was decided because of the AMA event being held at North Central Speedway that evening and we are aware that a lot of people plan on attending this event.

If you are a recipient of any trophies this season, you will find them attached to your wooden plaque at the banquet.  Remember, the wooden plaques are going to be ordered through the pre-reg shopping cart starting on Sept 18.  (See article in August newsletter)

If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to contact a BoD member.

The Central Roadracing Association and Bob Fier Racing/Rocky Mountain Kawasaki are looking to make the already exciting Ninja 250 class even more exciting for the final CRA race weekend of the year, happening September 23-25 on the Brainerd International Raceway Donnybrooke Course. Bob Fier Racing and Rocky Mountain Kawasaki sponsor the Ninja 250 spec class in the CRA and payout for the top 3 experts, and top 8 Novice finishers in total weekend points. For the September weekend, Bob Fier Racing has decided to double the top Expert payout to a very generous $500!

The racing in this class has been a thrilling corner to corner battle all the way to the finish, each race with 3 sprints per weekend. Most of the grids are showing about 14 Ninja 250s, and the spec rules are keeping the racing close! The exception to this close racing has been the one rider that keeps breaking out front and dominating the Expert class, and leaving the rest of the grid battling for the entire race. That rider is Christian Schmidt. Bob Fier Racing would like to double the 1st place payout, in an effort to attract anyone that wants to challenge our current points leader Schmidt for that top spot. So far two very fast riders have decided to take on Schmidt for the top podium spot during the September event. Gerry Signorelli (AMA #88), and Rob Pretts (CRA #1), will be challenging Schmidt’s class domination. It should also be mentioned that Schmidt is a very fast expert club racer who routinely wins races on just about every bike in every class from 1000s down to Ninja 250s. So far, this is shaping up to be a great battle of some of the fastest club racers around on the mighty Ninja 250s!

If you are a Ninja 250 racer and would like to take on the challenge, come join the CRA and race on the legendary Brainerd International Raceway. The payouts for the Ninja 250 spec class are based on total points for the weekend. The points are earned from 3 sprint races total. The payouts are as follows:

Expert, 1st = $500, 2nd = $125, 3rd = $100

Novice, 1st = $250, 2nd = $125, 3rd = $100, 4th = $80, 5th = $60, 6th= $50, 7th = $40, 8th = $30

The CRA’s Ninja 250 class is additionally sponsored by, Michelin, Bridgestone, Hotbodies, Momentum Photo, EBC, and Zalusky Advanced Riding School. With these great contingency sponsors, there are several opportunities to win back some of the cost of what is already a very fun and affordable racing class! Ninja 250 racers, come join the CRA September 23rd-25th at Brainerd International Raceway for an exciting event!

TEAM BOOOM! WINS THE CRA’S 3-HOUR ENDURANCE RACE

PRESS RELEASE
Central Roadracing Association
August 10, 2011

For Immediate Release:

TEAM BOOOM! WINS THE CRA’S 3-HOUR ENDURANCE RACE

The fourth round of the Central Roadracing Association’s season, taking place August 5-7 on Brainerd International Raceway’s Competition Course, was filled with drama, close racing and some new faces on the top of the podium.

The big story going into the weekend was the 3-hour Team Challenge race, which was serving as an unofficial warmup for the Worldwide Machining and Welding 5-hour Endurance Race happening September 23-25. Teams were definitely working out the kinks as they prepare to race for their share of the increased $11,000 purse on the line by trying out rider lineups and pit strategy. Reigning 5-hour endurance race champions, Team BOOOM!!, was a pre-race favorite but didn’t take the threat of their main competition, The Bomb Squad, lightly as lead rider Shane Keaveny stormed off to an early lead on his Honda CBR1000RR. The Bomb Squad’s Christian Schmidt gave chase on his Suzuki GSX-R1000, however Schmidt was the first of the leaders to pit as he handed over the reins to teammate Zach Hughes on his Yamaha R1. Hughes was expected to be able to make up some of the ground Schmidt lost to Keaveny while battling Team BOOOM!!’s second rider, Aaron Anderson, who would be circulating on his Yamaha R6 with slightly higher lap times. That never came to fruition as Hughes tucked the front going into the very slow speed turn 12 and lost a lap while assessing the damage to his bike. Hughes was able to get restarted and returned to the pits for Schmidt to take over again, but that didn’t last long as his GSX-R1000 quickly developed engine problems. Schmidt was soon out on a backup Yamaha R6 but pulled in shortly thereafter and withdrew from the race, essentially handing the overall win to Team BOOOM!! as Anderson, Keaveny and third rider Nick Campbell pounded out consistent laps for the remainder of the race.

Elsewhere in the 3-hour, fierce battles waged throughout the field. Ayden Lee Racing, with riders Drew See, Brett Folkerts and Jonny Shore, ran without issue and earned a solid second place overall ahead of Faster Than a Cheetah on Cocaine, with riders Scott Stall, Eric Purves and Adam Purves. Stall started the race for Faster Than a Cheetah on Cocaine but had clutch issues and made a pit stop on the first lap, dropping the team to dead last. They never gave up and clawed their way back to a podium finish, only two laps behind Ayden Lee Racing. Faster Than a Cheetah on Cocaine took home a close battle for the final podium spot ahead of Team Hoff, The Three Musketeers and Team Worldwide, with all four teams finishing on the same lap.

The stars of the race were the members of Team BOOOM!!, who are more than just teammates at the track, as proven by rider Nick Campbell: “There is nothing better in regards to club racing than combining top endurance team finishes with friendships that go far beyond the limits of the track. To say the members of Team BOOOM!! are the best of friends is no exaggeration. We attribute the successes we share as a team not only to our mutual respect of one another, but the love and support we receive from our families. As for any race strategies, we simply use more gas and less brake.”

The sprint races throughout the weekend produced a few first time winners. Young gun, Cole Speer, took his first 600cc expert win in a battle with class frontrunner Christian Schmidt. Speer was able to take the lead early in the race and the pair swapped the lead spot multiple times until they made contact which sent Schmidt to the ground and out of the race. Speer was eager to show that his win wasn’t solely because of Schmidt’s DNF and added another 600cc expert victory to his resume later that same afternoon.

The Lightweight Novice racers saw a new face on top of the podium in Jake Hawthorne. Hawthorne has made steady improvement throughout his first season and found himself in a perfect position to take advantage when class frontrunners Jon Champ and Jake Northrup took the phrase “close racing” to a new level and ended up in the dirt together.

Also joining Speer and Hawthorne as first time winners was Canada’s Jordan Imrie. GSX-R mounted Imrie, also a first year rider, has consistently picked up the pace throughout the season with the help of mentor Kris Skellenger and was closing in on Colin Cowles when Cowles highsided out of the race in turn 12. After that it was smooth sailing for the man from the Great White North as he came home with a sizeable gap over second place, Pat Stewart.
